Wabasha family charged in shoplifting incident
Let's see if you can follow this saga...Winona Police have charge a Wabasha mother, father and their teenage son in connection with a shoplifting incident on October 29 at Winona's Fleet Farm. Deputy Chief Tom Williams said the 39–year–old mother is being charged with obstructing the legal process, providing false information to police, liability of crimes of another and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her 15–year–old son faces charges of theft, giving police a false name and date–of–birth and obstruction. His 41–year–old father is charged with theft. Williams said the incident began on the 29th when store loss prevention personnel saw the son shoplift items. He was being question by store employees and a police officer with his mother present. Reports say the son gave the officer a false name and date of birth, but that the mother corroborated the story and said she was not his mother, but his legal guardian. She also said her husband was ill and waiting in the car for her. Williams said on Thursday, Fleet Farm loss prevention was called by the mother saying she had not realized her son had given the false name to investigators and didn't want her son to get in trouble. While reviewing surveillance video, loss prevention agents observed that the father had also been in the store on the 29th and had taken less than $50 in merchandise.
