The Minnesota House passes its Bonding Bill
The Minnesota House of Representatives passed their version of the capital investment bill or bonding bill Thursday. District 31-A State Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL-Winona) said now was the time to pass a balanced bill given the current economic situtation. In its present form, the measure contains funds for remodeling Winona State University's Memorial Hall and upgrades for the school's heating and ventilation systems. Also included is money for extending the Root River Trail and flood area restoration in southeast Minnesota. The bill has a price tag of $1 billion and is expected to undergo some changes as it moves through committee. Governor Tim Pawlenty has said he would like to see a bill with a price tag closer to $825,000.
